Fall in Love with Georgetowns Campus
Located in Washington, D.C., Georgetown University has one of the most beautiful college campuses, and any student lucky to get accepted will be happy to call it home for 4 years. But, theres more to Georgetown than its gorgeous architecture. Here what these Hoyas have to say about the opportunities D.C. has to offer and was campus culture is like: emmarhodes Georgetown ââ¬Ë20 Georgetowns location is almost perfect. Its in DC, which has so many things to do and a bunch of unique internship opportunities (especially for people into politics). Even though there is access to a city, I like that Georgetown has its own campus that isnt in the middle of downtown, because you still get the traditional college campus feel. The surrounding neighborhood of Georgetown is also really nice and cute with a lot of nice townhouses, shopping, etc. The one thing I would change is there is no metro stop in the neighborhood so it takes longer than it should to get into DC! (There is a shuttle though). What I like about the culture of Georgetown is that everyone is really involved on campus, especially in community service activities, theres no Greek life so it is more inclusive (except it is really hard to get into some clubs), and there are so many different religious and political views on campus that I felt that it would push me out of my comfort zone. LunaXDC Georgetown ââ¬Ë20 Oh lord I could go on forever. I like that Georgetown isnt cliquey or super elitist, I like that most of the students are involved in service, and I LOVE that instead of Greek life, clubs are the social scene. Plus, what is there not to love about DC?!?! If you want to see Georgetown like I see it, go visitbut visiting can always be tricky. Your perception of any school can and will be altered by irrelevant things like the weather, how youre feeling that day, and your tour guide. If you really like a school by what youve discovered online or via an admissions officers visit to your high school, but the tour doesnt go well, consider applying anyways. Livelovelaugh Georgetown ââ¬Ë18 DC is an absolutely amazing place to live! The jobs and internships are one part, but theres also the diversity and culture that makes this town a perfect environment for learning and applying education to real life. At Georgetown, Ive had both really interesting and incredibly boring professors, but the level of intelligence and passion from everyone Ive met is something I can really appreciate. Aidanhk Georgetown ââ¬Ë19 Georgetown is in DC. I mean if youre looking to work on the hill or in foreign service, there is no better place to be. There are tons of internships and jobs available to students in DC too. DC isnt too big a city like New York, but also isnt so small that the town revolves around the university- a good middle ground. The culture is considered preppy but some, but overall the student body tends to keep up appearances and put effort into looking their best. marmelade Georgetown ââ¬Ë18 Its in DC. Theres so much to do, both in Georgetown and around the city. Georgetown shops are pretty expensive, but theres some great places to eat, and walking to the Waterfront is a great way to relax for an hour or two. Were unfortunately a bit isolated due to the public transit system, but in a way its niceyou get a small, quaint feel around campus but have relatively easy access to Capital Hill, the suburbs, and most neighborhoods. I also really love going to a Jesuit schoolI thought that a religious institution would be a downer, but my chaplain is an amazing friend, Jesuit values lead to some thought-provoking dialogues, and theres something charming about seeing a priest whiz by on a golf cart (disclaimer: this doesnt happen as often as it should). Characterization of Democratic Republicans essays
Characterization of Democratic Republicans essays The Democratic Republicans were almost always characterized as believing in following the strict construction of the constitution. They were opposed to the loose interpretation the Federalists used. The presidencies of Jefferson and Madison proved this characterization to be somewhat accurate. It is true that both Jefferson and Madison supported the ideas of the Democratic Rebublicans but, they also did many things that contradicted them. In Thomas Jefferson's letter to Gideon Granger, Jefferson shows his ideas on how the Constitution should be interpreted and how they oppose that of the Federalists. Jefferson tells Granger that he believes they will be able to obtain a legislature which will preserve states rights. He also states that he disagrees with the Federalists ideas, that would "sink the state governments, consolidate them into one, and monarchise that." He also shows in this letter that he believes the theory of the Constitution is that the states should be in control of everything internal, and the central government should have control only of that which deals with foreign nations. In Jefferson's letter to Samuel Miller, he states that the president of the United States had not been delgated any power regarding religious exercises. This is exactly what a Democratic Republican would believe. They wanted a smaller, weaker central government which gave more power to the states. The longer Jefferson remained in office the more he went against the principles of the Democratic Republicans, he began to realize the importance of a strong central government. This can be seen in his Louisiana Purchase and in the Embargo Act. The Constitution does not specifically empower the federal government to acquire new territory by treaty. Even so, Jefferson purchased Lousiana from Napolean and it came into the United States possession on December 20, 1803. After the purchase Jefferson stated that he "stretched the constituti...

Week 3 Assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Week 3 Assignment - Essay Example The issue about abortion is highly contemptuous both from the legal, philosophical and more especially theological perspective. While current law tends to be more liberal with the legalization of abortion in some states and some countries, the controversy and debate about its propriety is still as heated as before. The argument whether it is right or wrong has not yet settled and confounded by the equally heated discourse about the womanââ¬â¢s right to choose with what to do with her own body and the fetus/zygote right to live. The arguments about abortion are grounded on several philosophical and theological premises. First is the argument about when did life begin? Some posits that life begins at conception while others argue that life already begun at implantation. The Catholic Church brings forth the argument of its foremost theologian, St. Thomas Aquinas who believed that life actually begins at 40 days for male and 80 for female. He based this theological basis of his from the Greekââ¬â¢s view about fetal development. It became more acceptable however that life begun when the fetus acquired personhood and/or ââ¬Å"ensoulmentâ⬠which has the same value and right as any human being to live. Having accepted this standard of where life actually begun, limits the argument to the point of when a fetus gains personhood. Development in science has helped to settle this dilemma for it provided that the fetus is already a viable human life at the end of second trimester of pregnancy. But even if perso nhood or ensoulment is already established, there are however circumstances that would make abortion morally acceptable. This particularly true when the pregnancy and/or is threatening the motherââ¬â¢s life that continuing the pregnancy would induce the death the mother. Thus, in this instance, abortion becomes

Three Religious Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Three Religious - Essay Example In fact, there are fundamental differences in the interpretation and fundamental facts and beliefs of the three religious traditions which make the issue all the more complicated to resolve. To point out an example of the differences in the fundamental beliefs of these religions, the Christian tradition insists that Jesus Christ is the son of God whereas the Jews believe that the son of God is still to arrive. However, there have been convincing evidences in the history of the three religious traditions as well as their beliefs and practices which suggest that the Jews, Muslims and Christians all worship the same God. Thus, a clear understanding of the origin and history of the three religious traditions makes it obvious that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have a common God in the God of Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac and Jacob. Although one may identify fundamental difference in the understanding of the nature of God in these religious traditions, they all believe ultimately in the same God. The God of Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac and Jacob in Judaism, which is historically the first to commence, is the same God of the Muslims and Christians. The similarity in their faith in God becomes palpable when one recognizes conspicuous resemblance in the history of Abraham in the three religions.

The need of Marijuana in our country making the drug legal to use recreationally by all 50 states. The benefits are huge when it comes to all states benefiting from money that they have earned in one year is one billion dollars, which was Colorado who made that much money from sales. Can you imagine who will benefit from the marijuana sold, first the children will have better schools, equipment such as computers, physical exercise programs, not to mention the economy will start being better from years to come. The Boost of revenue can only make America great again and flourishing from all the money spent on the war and just maybe we can go back to the way it used to be, when jobs were easy to get and prices on goods were not outrageous. b. Indica is kush from afghanistan making you lazy. c. Sativa is alternatively gives you energy used for depression and exhaustion. d. The people who will benefit from marijuana sales are police officiers and I want to tell you why this is really important. The more police officiers out on the treats means there will be less crime happening, and less drug dealers on the streets. If that happens the state will benefit from all the revenue from marijuana. c. People who are sick will easily attain marijuana which to me is great. I have seen people who have certain diseases and they are always in pain and the doctor didnt give them medical marijuana because there is no use to using the drug or it is not legal for the patient to use. Being a parent who sees there child in pain will do anything in there power to make sure they feel better. Conclusion I am very serious about this subject of getting marijuana legal in all states. The fact that all states will benefit from marijuana and obviously all the people in the state will benefit with better schools, roads, toll bridges will be paid off. Kids will have better equipment such as computers, physical exercise equipment will be good. My main point of having you guys agreeing with me is the people who cannot access the drug because only 28 states makes medical marijuana accessible to patients. I remember seeing this child and it was sad, she had seizures every 10 mins and can you imagine your child going through such pain. But thanks to cbd which is a liquid base marijuana that can be mixed in with food so that children can consume it. She was relieved from the seizures not happening that often, she was temporarily cured for that day.à As a parent I would give my child marijuana either by inhalation or cbd if it help them live a better life. ââ¬ÅThe Things They Carriedââ¬Â By Tim O`Brien
The beauty of this story is in its subtlety and depth. The most interesting inquiry of all as regards this piece is how Marthaââ¬â¢s letters and pictures come to play in the story. The letters and pictures may symbolize hope or even false hope, despair, distraction, confusion, love or others. The answer depends on whether one views the story as about war, love, some days in the life of Jimmy Cross or other possible themes around which the story may revolve. Based on the way the story was told, these theories and interpretations are all possible. What caught my attention in particular, in relation to Marthaââ¬â¢s letters and pictures, are the enumeration of the reasons and purposes people in the story carry the things they do. All of these purposes revolve around the fact that ââ¬Å"they carry things by necessityâ⬠(p. 714). Even those which they carry by superstition (p. 717) may be deemed to have been carried as a necessity because these things help them acquire courage a nd belief, if not in their victory, in their survival. However, among all the things he carried, Jimmy Cross carries Marthaââ¬â¢s love letters. Is this really necessary? This may not even qualify as superstition because there does not appear any belief on his part that the letters will provide him some protection from the war. At this point, the author effectively created an inconsistency that is too subtle to be noticed, but is too important that the story revolves around it. The story is also filled with enumerations of the things they carried. However, it is interesting that, while it constitutes the bulk of the story, this enumeration is actually not the story itself. It is included merely to demonstrate the inconsistency mentioned and thus give further emphasis to the value of Marthaââ¬â¢s letters for Jimmy and for the story. I also admire the author for being able to tell the story and convey the emotions of the characters through descriptions of what are happening rather than through direct statements of the emotions felt, thus allowing the readers freedom to interpret and visualize. An example of this is the authorââ¬â¢s description of Martha during her volleyball accident (p. 715) and the description of the things carried by different people in the story.1. What do you think is the authorââ¬â¢s purpose in stating more than once in the story that Martha signed her letters and pictures with Love, but that he knew better that this is just a customary way of signing a letter and does not really mean anything? Is this to show that Martha does not love Jimmy? Is it to create doubt as to whether Martha does not really love Jimmy? What other purposes can there be? 2. This story enumerates many material things men carry at war. However, in one part of the story (p. 724), the author wrote the sentence ââ¬Å"[t]he things men carried inside. What does the author mean by this? What are the things men carried inside? Relate this to the statement ate the e nd of the story that ââ¬Å"their days would seem longer and their loads heavierâ⬠(p. 725). 3. React on this statement. ââ¬Å"[H]is obligation was not to be loved but to leadâ⬠(p. 725). Is it possible to dispense with love completely? Can a person in a war lead and be loved at the same time? Is there room for love when there is war? Work Cited Oââ¬â¢Brien, Tim. ââ¬Å"The Things They Carried (1986). â⬠Worlds of Fiction. Ed. Rubinstein and Larson. Macmillan Coll Div, 1993. 713-725.
